Kaname Akamatsu was a Japanese economist and professor at Hitotsubashi University and Nagoya Higher Commercial School, best known for developing the 'flying geese' paradigm (ganko keitai) of economic development. His theory, influenced by the German Historical School and Hegelian dialectics, explains how latecomer economies catch up with advanced nations through a sequential process of importing, domestic production, and exporting.
