Lloyd Best was a prominent Trinidadian economist, political theorist, and public intellectual who co-developed the 'plantation economy' model to explain the structural underdevelopment of Caribbean nations. He was a founding member of the New World Group and the Tapia House Movement, and he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate of Trinidad and Tobago.
