Kunio Yoshihara is a Japanese economist and Professor Emeritus at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS), Kyoto University. He is best known for his influential critique of 'ersatz capitalism' in Southeast Asia, arguing that the region's economic development was dependent on foreign technology and state-granted monopolies rather than indigenous innovation.
